DIY Home Improvements

Since the start of the pandemic, many of us have been left with much more free time on our hands than we had expected. This leaves for the perfect excuse to work on all those home projects we’ve all been putting off. Whether it be as simple as replacing old door knobs or as intense as installing crown moldings; here are a few tips that will immediately make your home value increase.

  • A fresh paint job! Neutral and clean paint colors have proven to increase the value of homes and are more attractive to buyers. For less than $20 per gallon you can completely recreate a living space.

  • Reveal and restore natural wooden floors. This may seem like a daunting process, however, it is simpler than it seems. Many are unaware of the beautiful wooden floors that may lie beneath their outdated carpet flooring!

  • Powerwash the driveway, walkway, patio and fence. Power Washers can be rented from Ace, Lowes, the Home Depot and many local hardware stores. Power washing can take years of grime and dirt off and bring a completely upgraded look to your home.

  • Photo walls have been all the craze across Pinterest boards and Instagram. If you are able to score some vintage frames, you can finish them with a clear coating or even spray paint to match details in your room and completely recreate the living space.

  • Upgrade your landscaping! Gardening gives you a perfect excuse to enjoy the outdoors and stay active. Landscaping is one of the first things guests see when they visit your home and is the perfect way to make a good first impression. Get the most for your buck and buy perennial plants (these live for over two years, saving you from wasting your money on plants that only last one season). Elegant but inexpensive flower pots can be found at Marshalls or Home Goods. Or if you are feeling very crafty you can pick up a plain clay pot and paint the design yourself!

Home improvements do not need to mean expensive bills and lengthy projects from construction workers. There are many simple yet effective tasks you can do on your own to make your home fabulous.
